Taco Tour & Wynwood Walls - Miami
If you didn’t already know, we LOVE tacos! Miami being a city with a rich Hispanic/Latino culture, we knew there were amazing tacos to be found. Arthur had some friends in town, so we figured it was the perfect time to take a break from the boat and venture into the city!
We settled on 3 taco spots and the Wynwood Walls for the day.
First stop, Caja Caliente. They are a fixed food truck with a funky tropical backyard seating vibe. Everyone agreed these were the best tacos of the day! If you can only get one taco in Wynwood, this is the place! We had a mahi mahi empanada, octopus taco, and a steak taco. We could have easily ordered one of everything, and gorged ourselves all day long.
Second stop was next door at another fixed food truck, Taco Miendo. Located inside Midtown Garden Center, seating is surrounded by various plants for sale. Their tacos were a little more simple than our first stop, but still pretty good. According to Google, the establishment is BYOB. We didn’t ask, but enjoyed a couple of beers from the corner store without any harassment, so we’re thinking that the Google rumors are correct. We had street corn, a chicken, pork, and a beef taco. All very tasty!
I have this problem that whenever I see an ice cream shop I just walk in. Some may call it a lack of self control, but I like to think of it more as a calling. A calling to find the best ice cream everywhere I go! When I saw Midtown Creamery’s homemade sign, I couldn’t resist. I walked right in and ordered a double scoop ice cream. A little on the pricey side but it was SO GOOD! I’d go back.
On our walk to the Wynwood Walls we heard music, loud music. So we followed the music and found the Wynwood Yard. What a fun place! There was free music, a bar, and SO MANY food trucks. They weren’t all open yet, but we grabbed coffee and enjoyed the serenade before venturing on. Definitely somewhere we would return for the atmosphere.
At last! We finally made it to Wynwood Walls!
Talk about an explosion of art! We spent an hour (with a couple hundred other tourists) wandering around the murals and taking in the creativity. That creativity brushed off on our friends so much they decided to trick people into answering a disconnected phone on the gallery table. Why else would they set it out like that?!?
Last stop for the day, Bodega Taqueria y Tequlia! Although this was across town from where we started, it was well worth the trip! A Shrimp Ceviche and a Lobster Taco later and we had finally satisfied our taco craving (for the day).
If you’re around in the evening, the hidden bar in the back is a fun spot to hang out. The porta-potty door will take you through a short hallway with urinals, and into a swanky bar with a fantastic happy hour drink menu.
So many tacos, so little time! Leave us a comment with your favorite taco spot in the Miami area so we can add it to our list of places not to be missed on our next trip!
