Welcome to Against the Current! We got married in September 2018, but decided to skip the big wedding and put that money towards taking time off to travel and catch up with the people we love most. We called it our “Victory Lap”. We had always dreamed of traveling full time, so after grinding away at our jobs for several years, we decided it was time to start living that dream. We bought a 60 year old sailboat on a whim and officially set sail at the beginning of 2019. Mistakes, sunburns, and storms were inevitable BUT, there were also plenty of epic sunsets, tacos, and lots of laughing at how unprepared we were for this journey. We are living life against the current, and always have been in one way or another. Join us as we travel, meet new people, reconnect with friends and family, and indulge in good food. Hell, we're just trying to enjoy life on our own terms and figured we could inspire others to do the same!
Visiting the Ancient City of St Augustine? Check out our list of favorite food stops from prohibition era themed restaurants to blueberry goat cheese ice pops.
If you didn’t already know, we LOVE tacos! Miami being a city with a rich Hispanic/Latino culture, we knew there were amazing tacos to be found.
Some people have a life list of all the birds they’ve ever seen…we’re starting a life list of all the tacos we’ve loved.
Take your tastebuds on a tour of Chile! A complete list of food you should try on your trip to Chile. Some sweet, some sour, most delicious, but a few a bit funky.
We’ve been living out of a van for just over 30 days now and figured we would share our best tips for keeping us happy while constantly on the road. Tip #1, always pack snacks!
If you’re on the East Coast and haven’t been to St. Augustine, you should start planning a trip ASAP! From the cobblestone streets and rich history to the mouth watering food and fancy cocktails, it’s such a fun and beautiful city to hang out in.

Traveling to the Big Island? Be sure to spend at least 48 hours on the East side and soak up all Hilo has to offer!
One of the key components to a successful blog is being consistent. Any research on the subject or blogging course will tell you that. We’ve done a ton of things this year and consistency is not one of them.
Cue the sweaty palms and uncomfortable shifting of weight back and forth. You want to hang out? With us? Never have I experienced more social anxiety until I moved onto this boat and now go days of only talking to Arthur.
Throughout the entire trip from Hawaii to Key West, I was manifesting the hell out of everything being ok. Arthur, on the other hand, was going over everything that could have gone wrong while we were gone for 3 weeks
When Arthur first asked me if I wanted to take a trip back to Hawai’i, I told him absolutely not; he should go, but I would find something else to do while he was gone. I had already said my goodbyes and cried my eyes out last November, and I didn’t want to repeat all of that just yet.
As one friend and previous owner put it, “the Egret will test you”. She has certainly tested us over the past three months.
I think whoever said, “It takes a village to raise a child” meant to say, “It takes a village to help you move onto a boat!” We have been overwhelmed by the amount of support we’ve gotten this past week, but one hell of a week it has been!
Arthur and I have realized that we made our big announcement about moving onto a boat and traveling, but we haven’t given anyone an idea of where we plan to go and when we plan on going. We did not do this on purpose! Honestly, things have been so HECTIC the past few months.
Putting together your own brewery crawl is a breeze in Asheville’s Brewery District. With 10 breweries all within walking distance there’s no excuse not to try a couple craft beers. Check out 5 of the 10 we hit on our last trip in this post.
